UrbanTrekkers Ciclismo seeks to build character through the sport of road and mountain biking. With various groups designed for different leveled cyclists, our youth can learn the basics of how to balance on a bike or how to endure an eight day cycling tour across the country. As they pedal, train, and maintain their bikes alongside instructors and mentors—nearly all of whom are volunteers—students learn the skills needed to become leaders among peers and productive, responsible adults.
We have three different biking groups that meet weekly to go cycling in and around Copan. Below you’ll find a description of each!
Biking 101/Basicos de Bici
Starting from the very beginning, our youth learn the basics of how to ride a bike. from balance to changing a tire, changing gears to proper safety gear, we’ve had several youth who have gone from no biking knowledge to full abilities in a matter of a few weeks!
For those who are already well versed in biking skills, we offer the chance to explore Copan on two wheels! With a different destination in mind each week, our youth have the chance to visit the local Bird Park, the village of La Pintada, various Mayan Ruins sites, and more!
For those who need to get their adrenaline fix or just expend some energy, this group is perfect. We focus on distance and speed while maintaining safe road biking procedures with our youth. Our Trekkers have ridden to the nearby towns of Santa Rita, El Jarel, El Pedernal, Rio Amarillo, and even the Guatemalan Border!
