UrbanTrekkers’ multi-day expeditions offer hands-on learning and journey-based experiences to the youth involved in UrbanPromise Honduras. Through travel to places beyond their everyday lives, youth are motivated to learn more about themselves and the world around them and develop their potential as young leaders. Each trip is focused around the six key elements of UrbanTrekkers: outdoor adventure, environmental awareness, historical perspectives, cross-cultural experiences, community service, and leadership training and team-building.

 

Day Hikes, Community Events & Local Impact >>

Last year our UrbanTrekkers’ experiential learning programs exposed over 190 youth and volunteers to the diversity of people, places, and natural landscapes right in their own backyard of Copan Ruinas. Our programming follows the philosophy that education is a lifelong journey that, when nurtured, leads to an endless childlike curiosity and a continual quest to know “why.” Each Trekker component is designed to inspire academic success and guide students to a place where they can enter deeper into their walk with God. We partner with local schools and non-profit organizations to serve the community in hands-on ways, while opening the eyes of our youth to the various ways the can be the hands and feet of Christ.

Ciclismo: Biking at its best >>

UrbanTrekkers Ciclismo seeks to build character through the sport of road and mountain biking. With various groups designed for different leveled cyclists, our youth can learn the basics of how to balance on a bike or how to endure an eight day cycling tour across the country. As they pedal, train, and maintain their bikes alongside instructors and mentors—nearly all of whom are volunteers—students learn the skills needed to become leaders among peers and productive, responsible adults.

Rooftop Garden >>

Started by Jonathan Kays, our first UrbanTrekkers volunteer, our rooftop garden has been growing in both size and purpose. Our mission is to create an open, safe space, where we can promote the availability of nutritious, fresh and pesticide-free food while connecting youth with mentors and volunteers who can plant seeds of love in the soil of their life.
